Republican "Courage"

Yesterday, November 17, 2005, Representative John Murtha-D, PA proposed that we stop using our brave servicemen and women as "human shields" for the perpetrators of a half-cocked and dangerous strategy in Iraq. Representative Murtha earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star in Vietnam. Until yesterday, he has been among the most hawkish of Democrats.

Dennis Hastert-R, IL responded that we "must not cower" and accused Murtha of insulting the troops. J. D. Hayworth-R, AZ lectured Murtha that Americans are made of "sterner stuff." Roy Blunt-R, MO talked about Democrats "undermining our troops" from their Washington offices. John Carter-R, TX accused Murtha of wanting to "take the cowardly way out."

The courage of these men is inspiring. How brave they must have been in combat! Well, no. Mr Hastert, 0 minutes in combat, 0 minutes in uniform. Mr. Hayworth, 0 minutes in combat, 0 minutes in uniform. Mr. Blunt, 0 minutes in combat, 0 minutes in uniform. Mr. Carter, 0 minutes in combat, 0 minutes in uniform. What a great bunch to send young people to be maimed and die; what a great bunch to criticize a war hero! I nominate all four of them to put on a uniform and ride in convoys until we "finish the job." Too old? How old is too old when it comes to serving as a target?

  • Here we go again, Admiral!!
    1. Republicans and Democrats alike voted to send our troops into battle.
    2. Republicans and Democrats alike voted to not bring them home at this point.
    3. I think all old people should be sent into combat to be used as human shields, not just Congress.(Hmmm...)Sound a little outlandish?
    4. Do you really, I mean really, believe that Congress sends troops anywhere without considerable angst and concern. If you don't believe that, you are tainted beyond what I thought.

As always, Admiral, you are the wind beneath my wings!!! :)

  • Let it suffice to say that I would be much reassured if any of those mentioned had served in the military, much less in combat, mot to mention Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Brit Hume, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Andy Card, John Bolton, Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich, Trent Lott, Mitch McConnell, Joe Lieberman, Sean Hannity, Ben Stein, Ted Nugent, Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson.

The VOTE you mention was one to authorize the President to use force as a last resort and in concert with a coalition of our allies. Didn't happen.

The VOTE you mentioned "not to bring them home" was in response to a proposal by John Murtha to redeploy our troops out of Iraq, but in striking distance in case the Iraqi forces needed our support. Strange the Republican-controlled Congress did not vote on that proposal but on their own "cut and run" proposal introduced by REPUBLICAN Duncan Hunter, who is at least a Vietnam vet and a former Army Ranger. Wonder why they didn't want a recorded vote on the Murtha proposal???

I don't know about the angst of Congressmen and administraton leaders sending young people to die and be maimed. I just wonder how many of them sent their own family members to fight in this one. Now, that's angst!
